R.I.P. David Leroy Rolle

For now here is a picture of the awesome Rolle Family that I took while at the Memorial for my dear Bro' David.

It was a true pleasure to see them all again... I love them like my own family it was a happy sad time... our hearts are all broken from losing David but also happy he is no longer in pain and know his dear mother Donna is waiting for him on the other side with open arms and in another blink of eternity... our spirits will all be together again.

You can click the picture to see a larger image as with all pictures on my site.

Here it is a few months later and I deeply apologize for taking so long to update this... I was chatting with Michelle another dear old friend tonight, who mentioned David and then I figured I better update this while I have a little time. I have been busier than a dog in a hydrant factory lately!

I will try to keep this as PG-Rated as possible but if you know David's or my past... you can understand that may be difficult and apologize in advance if anyone is offended by my words and memories.

I have so many awesome memories of David that I want to share. He was way more than a friend and always will be in my heart.

I believe it was 1973 when we first met.

My old Barracuda was grounded waiting for a new clutch so, I was stuck riding the bus to school.

I hadn't spent time with my girlfriend Judy (no last name will be mentioned) other than in the cafeteria, since the cuda had been down and $75 for a new Zoom clutch was far from my KFC slavin' butt for awhile.

But anyway... I was riding the bus with Judy so we could go for a hike around the hills between Conway and Lake McMurray around her house. The bus driver yelled "put out that cigarette" at a fella with shoulder length blonde hair who was new to Mount Vernon High. He yelled back "its not a cigarette!" He was smokin' a joint on the bus! The driver slammed on the brakes as David chewed and swallowed the joint and she immediately made him get off the bus. Then she looked again in the big mirror above her head like she was looking right at my eyeballs and yelled "who the hell are you" at me.  I started telling her I was "riding to Judy's" and she interrupted telling me her bus was not transportation to a "love nest!" I was also ejected from the bus! I did get a kiss good-bye from Judy tho' so it was well worth it!

As the bus pulled away... I noticed David was laughin' his butt off! I said "hi, my name is Frank" and held out my hand. He reached out still laughin'... slapped my open hand with his then wrapped a grip on my palm and thumb (the old brother handshake) then finished with an old-fashioned firm grip handshake and said "my name is David Rolle" and when he said "Rolle" it was crescendoed with a gruff kinda humorous addition... "R-R-R-Rolle" if you know any of the awesome Rolle's... you know what I mean and have heard it yourselves. :)

I took this picture of a picture on a board that was at the Memorial along with many others but figured I would post this one that most reflects what David looked like when we met.

I told David that he had a lot of balls and gave a good laugh!

He suggested I walk to his place to listen to a Cheech and Chong album well... it sure wasn't like spendin' the afternoon with Judy but it sounded fun. We walked about a mile and a half to his place it was about half-way to Conway from Mount Vernon... a big green two-story farmhouse that still stands today beside I-5.

While walking to the house David told me that he wasn't scared of anything because he had already "beaten death" he raised the front of his tee-shirt while stating "I only have one lung!"  I looked and it was quite a shocker! Where most of us have a chest... he had a big what looked like a crater in his chest... he told me that was why he smoked weed... because it helped him breathe better and helped rid him of pain.

I had never heard of weed being medicinal before... I figured "gettin' high" was all it was for.

I can't remember the disease David had but he was in medical books specified as the only or only one of few to survive it. He had to have a lung removed. He also told me if he ever got hit in the chest... it could kill him! That was easily obvious after seeing his intense scars.

I told myself immediatly to be his bodyguard... I knew all to well what it was like being a "newbie" after attending 16 schools before ending up at Mount Vernon High.

David had no fear but he was a little scrawny when we first met and over the years that changed... he really put on the muscle. When we were young... I could toss him around like a rag doll but after becoming adults I wouldn't wanna think about messin' with him physically. He was one bad-ass dude and could whoop his weight in wildcats!

Sorry the pic above is blurry... it was hard to get a focus that close but had to show the Road Runner... that car was as bad-ass as David was... it was his pride and joy... I loved every chance I got to take the wheel we ran it hard just the way it was built to run... damn David... what a machine!!!
Well... its late and I'm bushed... I'll try not to take so long to add to this page again. Here is one more shot for now of David with a few years under his belt:
